Ticino Shotokan Karate will be performing on stage on Saturday, 2nd September, at 12:15. Their performance will leave you speechless and showcase the philosophy and practice of this ancient martial art. The term “Shotokan” has now become synonymous with this sport and represents one of the most well-known styles of Karate worldwide.

The name “Shotokan” derives from “Shoto,” which means “the wind that passes through the pines,” the artistic name of Master Gichin Funakoshi, considered the founder of this particular style, while “Kan” means “house” or “training place.” Ticino Shotokan has been part of Swiss Shotokan Karate since 1993 and is present in Ticino with 2 dojos, Gordola-Tenero-Locarno, and Brissago, boasting over fifty active members. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover the energy and beauty of this millennia-old sport!

Shintai-Karate Do, on the other hand, awaits you for a workshop on Sunday, 3rd September, at 14:45, on the first floor of Espocentro. In this workshop, you will be guided through an experience that allows you to approach Karate from a historical, cultural, and above all, practical perspective.

The course will begin with a presentation that addresses technical, cultural, and philosophical themes with the aim of providing you with a general overview of the history of Karate, from its ancient roots on the island of Okinawa to its modern evolution. Subsequently, there will be a demonstration by the instructors showcasing a series of dynamic form and combat sequences. Finally, you will have the opportunity to put some basic Karate techniques into practice during a training session led by experienced masters and instructors. The workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn, explore, or expand their knowledge in the world of martial arts and Karate. There are no age or specific requirements for registration; don’t let this opportunity slip away and come and give it a try!
