The performance takes the audience on a journey into the discovery of the mighty Japanese drums through a legendary narration based on the ancient Kojiki book and accompanied by a live soundtrack. The texts have been adapted from the originals to be accessible to an audience that is not familiar with the intricate Japanese mythology. This allows for a clear understanding of the events and characters and allows the audience to be transported into a world of ancestral rhythms and beliefs. The beautiful Sun Goddess Amaterasu, the impetuous Storm God Susano, and the vitality of the Goddess of Festivities Uzume will appear on stage to tell, through music and their gestures, the fascinating story of the birth of Taiko. This will not be a mere percussion concert, but a real show, in which the musicians of the Lecco Taiko Association will perform and move almost as if they were dancing. The Japanese drums, together with other musical instruments and traditional Japanese masks, are interwoven with electronic music to evoke settings and characters. This performance is powerful both from a musical and narrative point of view, and will give the audience an opportunity to approach Japanese culture starting from its most primitive and engaging part: the drum.

Biography
Taiko Lecco is an association for the promotion of community life that was founded in early 2008 and has since been active in the provinces of Lecco and Como with numerous activities and proposals. It offers courses and performances that occasionally feature guests from Japan and the United States.
Over the years, the association has developed and produced numerous shows and projects that have integrated taiko practice with other artistic languages and forms of expression. They have collaborated with various productions and festivals, including the Milan Polytechnic, the Nohma Theatre and the Matalon Foundation in Milan, the Teatro Invito in Lecco, Vimercate Ragazzi Festival and many others. Since 2008, it has continued to deepen his technique and study of Japanese percussion with the collaboration of several masters, including the Rev. Tom Shuichi Kurai founder and director of the Taiko Centre in Los Angeles, Mizuho Zako of Oedo Sukeroku. He has intensified his contacts with Japan and the Kodo group since 2015, hosting the ‘Kodo workshop tour’ and inviting Tsuyoshi Maeda and Masayuki Sakamoto, former members of this famous group. In 2018, it collaborated to organise the Kodo Workshop in Milan, held by Yuta Sumiyoshi and Leonard Eto’s Workshop at Contaminafro.
A major activity of the association is the Japanese percussion workshops they hold in various nursery and primary schools in the Lecco area. These workshops are part of broader projects aimed at fostering creativity in children and young people. Specifically, they integrate the practice of percussion and music with theatrical and visual language, partly through the creation of stage sets and scenic material.
The Taiko Lecco will host a Taiko workshop on Saturday 02/09 at 2 pm.
