Workshop on Origami, Creating Kitsune Mask, Bigata, and Shakyou.

The Camelia Club will offer a variety of workshops suitable for all ages, including origami, which literally means “the art of folding paper.” There will also be an opportunity to create your own “kitsune” mask. The kitsune, a fox, has always been a part of Japanese culture. For example, during the harvest festival, some temples hold a procession with the kitsune mask. The Camelia Club has prepared a simple illustration to allow everyone to try their hand at bingata, a traditional dyeing technique originating from Okinawa. Just color a postcard to bring out the kimono design. Lastly, don’t miss the Shakyou workshop. Nowadays, Shakyou is practiced in many Buddhist temples as part of the spiritual activities for the faithful. It is considered a way to get closer to sacred texts, learn Buddhist teachings, and cultivate the mind and heart. Don’t miss out on these wonderful workshops!

Suminagashi Workshop

Discover the art of SUMINAGASHI, which translates to “floating ink” in Japanese. This ancient technique is used to adorn paper with ink (sumi 墨) that is delicately floated or moved (nagashi 流し) on water, and then captured and transferred onto sheets of paper. With origins dating back to the year one thousand, SUMINAGASHI is considered the oldest marbling technique. Its beauty lies not only in the method employed but also in the designs, where the lines and nuances are ever-changing and unpredictable. The artist’s intention only partly influences the outcome, as the details of the artwork are determined by the vibrations transmitted to the water. This unique opportunity allows you to immerse yourself in one of Japan’s oldest arts and take home a delicate memento of its wonderful culture.

Introduction and Tasting of Japanese Sake

Cristina Volpi, a Sake Sommelier and representative of Kitsune Trading Sagl, a Swiss importer of Premium Japanese Sake, warmly invites you to participate in this workshop: “Many people mistakenly view Japanese Sake as a warm post-meal drink with a strong kick. However, in reality, Sake, an iconic Japanese beverage, is a fermented delight with an alcohol content slightly higher than that of wine (14% – 16% ABV). Even more notably, it’s meant to be savored throughout the meal and enjoyed at different temperatures. The temperature significantly influences the Sake’s flavor profile, revealing diverse taste characteristics based on how it’s served. Let’s embark on a journey of discovery and enjoy together three distinct varieties, each served at a different temperature! KANPAI!”

Digital vs Traditional?

Digital art isn’t synonymous with artificial intelligence. We will delve into tools and skills, methods, and areas of investigation.

During this workshop, we will explore the practical support that technology can provide in learning artistic theories and abilities. It’s worth noting that the computer isn’t the one doing the tracing; we remain at the core of the creative learning process!

So, what additional benefits does the digital realm offer? And is starting with traditional techniques still necessary to truly learn how to draw?
